Understanding how your printer works:
Most inkjet printheads have 48 or more nozzles. Each
nozzle is smaller in size than a human hair. Behind each nozzle is a small "heater" which heats the ink
causing it to bubble. The heater is turned off and the bubble then bursts causing ink to get "splattered"
onto the page in the form of a small dot. This process is repeated several thousand times per second. It is these
small dots of ink which form the letters and graphics as the printhead moves over the page.
With the above explanation in mind, it is easy to see the two main causes for a
nozzle(s) not to work. The small
size leaves the nozzles very susceptible to clogging. Try the following suggestions to unclog a nozzle. If the
printhead is part of the cartridge or is removable from the printer, blot the printhead on a damp paper towel,
then several times on a dry paper towel. Repeat until you get a uniform ink pattern. If this did not solve the
problem, try running several printer cleaning cycles. Sometimes printing several pages will clear the clogged
nozzle(s).
If your printer has a permanent printhead such as the Epson series, it is not recommended running more then 2 or
3 consecutive cleaning cycles. Repeated cleaning cycles can smear excessive amounts of ink over the printhead and
actually block more nozzles. Often printing 10 or more full-color pages will clear the blockage. If possible, do
not use the Epson printer for 24 hours. This may loosen the dried ink on the
printhead, equalize the pressurization
inside the cartridge or allow an air blockage to be released. Unfortunately the printheads on Epson printers are
not easily accessible for manual cleaning. As a last resort, try a new cartridge. Difficulty to get all nozzles
printing after replacing or refilling an Epson cartridge has been an occasional problem since the first Epson Inkjet
model, however, the latest models seem much more prone to these problems, whether refilling a cartridge or using
originals. For
more detailed information on Epson printhead clogging, please click here.
The second reason a nozzle(s) may not work is due
to the "heater" burning out. This can not be repaired and the cartridge will have to be replaced.
Why are
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges so expensive?
The inkjet printer marketing has become a "lost
leader" industry. The price of many new inkjet printers is only slightly higher than the cost of the ink cartridges
in them. People are shocked to find that replacing a color cartridge and black cartridge can cost upwards of $80.00
CND$ while the printer only cost $100.00 or less. In purchasing
only two sets of OEM cartridges, you have paid for your printer a second time,
and then some. The philosophy is simple. "Give" the printer away, then collect never-ending profits from
the sale of ink cartridges. Our InkMagic Premium
Compatible Inkjet Cartridges help you combat these marketing techniques by allowing you to
purchase your cartridges at a much more realistic cost.
Why
are InkMagic
Premium Inkjet Compatible Cartridges so inexpensive?
Each InkMagic Premium
Compatible Inkjet Cartridge looks
and prints just like an original cartridge, so how can InkMagic
sell their cartridges for so much less? It is very simple
... we price our cartridges using a 'normal' or realistic mark-up.
We do not add 500% -600% or 1,000% to the manufacturing cost as
is often the case with original cartridges as previously
explained.
Let
us use the Epson brand cartridges as an example. When you
look at a typical black Epson cartridge, most are a small,
plastic box with a sponge full of ink. The plastic box
couldn't cost any more than $1.00 to produce. The sponge,
maybe $0.50. The ink would normally be the most expensive
component at perhaps $1.50. If the cartridge cost
$3.00 to produce, then by the time it goes through distributors
and dealers, this cartridge should retail at about $6.00.
Surprise ... That is what many of our Black Epson
Compatible Cartridges retail for. Compare this $6.00
price with the $25.00+ Epson black cartridge and you can clearly
see that something isn't right here. The difference is
ever more when comparing color cartridges!
In
normal business practice, the quantities of cartridges
manufactured by the printer companies should enable them to sell
the cartridges for LESS than a smaller
producer. If producers of original cartridges
followed any kind of realistic mark-up or profit practices, we
simply wouldn't be in business.
< FACE="Times New Roman">Where
are the HP & LexMark cartridges?
HP,
LexMark and some Canon cartridges have printheads built into the
cartridge. The original manufacturers have patents on
these printheads. Any compatible cartridges manufactured
for this type of cartridge would violate the
patents. Even if a compatible cartridge, with
printhead, could be produced without violating any patents, the
original manufacturer would most likely claim that there was an
infringement and drag the smaller producer through years of
court cases. In many cases the huge legal cost would put
the smaller company out of business before the product ever
reached the market.
For
those cartridges with printheads, the only way to reduce the
cost of printing is to refill your cartridge. We probably
have a refill kit made specifically
for your cartridge.
As
yet we do not offer refilled cartridges as we find the failure
rate is too high. We continue to research these products
and may offer refilled or 'remanufactured' inkjet cartridges in
the future, but only when we feel confident the failure rate
will be less than 1%.
Will
I see any difference?
InkMagic Premium
Compatible Inkjet Cartridges
look and perform just like the original cartridges. As
with our refill kits, the ink in each cartridge is as close to
the ink in the original cartridge as is humanly possible.
The coloration is matched to the original cartridge to ensure
you will not see any difference between the original and our
compatible. We guarantee it!

proceedure.
What's
this chip on my cartridge?
Purchasers
of this year's Epson printers will notice that their cartridges
have a chip on them. Epson calls it their 'intelli
chip'. People in our industry call it a 'killer
chip'. Epson claims this chip monitors the ink usage much
more accurately than previously used computer programs.
When this chip determines that the cartridge is empty, the
printer stops printing and won't work again until the cartridge
is replaced!
Many
in the compatible cartridge and refill kit industry feel these
chips are simply a tactic to stop competitors from infringing on
a very lucrative part of the printer manufacturing
business. While these chips did increase development time
for the compatible cartridge manufacturers, it did not stop
them. (They're a very industrious bunch!) Epson
Compatible cartridges are now available for most of the
Epson cartridges with the chip. You will notice, however,
the chip adds dramatically to the cost of the compatible
cartridges. The price for an Epson compatible cartridge
with a chip is about 3 - 4 times the cost of a similar cartridge
without a chip. This should be taken into
consideration before you purchase your next printer.
The
chip causes additional problems for manufacturers of refill
kits. The chip must be reprogrammed to look like the
cartridge is full again. Several methods have been
developed to reprogram the chip. They all add to the cost
of producing the refill kit. We will write an article in
the near future with full details on all of the various methods.
We
simply ask, who is the 'intelli' chip benefiting? The
printer manufacturer or the consumer?

Do you have
Cartridges or Refill Kits for my printer?
InkMagic
manufactures Refill Kits
for
most popular brands of printers, including those cartridges with
printheads. If you own a new printer and you don't see it on our
compatible
cartridge list
or refill
kit list, then please check back with us regularly.
We are consistently one of the first companies to introduce refill kits for the new cartridges, but it does take
time to formulate and manufacture the ink to our exacting specifications.
Will refilling void my printer warrantee?
In one word ... NO! If you read the first question,
"Why are cartridges so expensive?", then you will realize why printer manufacturers will do everything
in their power to keep you from purchasing compatible cartridges. They make their profits from selling the cartridges,
not the printers. By purchasing compatible cartridges, you are cutting into their primary source of profit. Because of
this, they will often threaten to void your warrantee if you refill your cartridges or use compatible cartridges.
They are simply trying to protect their own interests, in anyway possible. They are counting on your not knowing
that it is strictly ILLEGAL for any printer manufacturer to void the warranty simply because you are not using
original cartridges. This would fall under the area of unfair competition.
We do recommend that if you are having problems with
your printer, then replace both cartridges with originals. If this does not solve your problem, then it has nothing
to do with the ink or the cartridges. Send your printer in for warranty with the original (not refilled or compatible)
cartridges. The company will have no choice but to repair your printer under the warranty.
